1. Obstacles & Gems Mine

So all those trees and bushes around your base you can actually remove them for a very small elixir cost but you actually can get free gems out of these you can get anywhere from zero to six gems from each obstacle and while this may not seem like a lot it does stack up over the long run an obstacle spawns once every eight hours or so so that's basically like three obstacles in a 24-hour period so assuming that you get around two to three gems per obstacle on average that's almost like ten gems per day from obstacles completely for free ten gems per day so yeah it does stack up over like a week over a month over a year if you just keep on removing these obstacles and not waste your gems any time you will get like a thousand gems two thousand gems just from removing obstacles obstacles also includes the gem box which is a really special obstacle where you can get 25 gems in a single obstacle so if you ever get a gem box in your village make sure to remove it as soon as possible because you can't get more than one gem box in your village at a time so if you just keep that gem box staying there for like a whole month then another gem box won't spawn in your village you have to remove that first gem box first so that another one can spawn obstacles are probably the best way to get free gems and the majority of gems probably come from obstacles in your village believe it or not because they're so easy and quick to remove and they're so common to get free gems.

2. completing achievements 

So if you go to your profile and you scroll down you'll see plenty of achievements that you can do and when you complete these achievements you will get free gems now at the lower stages you only get like five ten twenty gems for completing and achievement but as you progress through them you actually get quite a bit of gems from the higher end achievements the biggest one that you can get is 2000 gems from getting to Champions League and then you can get 1000 gems if you get two masters League and if you get to 1250 trophies you get 250 gems so yeah that's a lot of gems if you ask me and there's plenty of other achievements out there that you can do like completing all the single-player Maps I believe that gives you like 20 gems or so if you destroy a certain amount of mortars or walls or town halls you got a certain amount of gems as well so yeah achievements are probably the second best way to get free gems because as you're playing the game you're essentially completing those achievements sometimes I don't even realize that I'm actually doing an achievement because as I'm attacking I'm completing achievements that I probably don't even intend to complete so yeah that's a great thing about achievements and like I said I have the higher level ones you can get a ton of gems for getting these achievements done so make sure you guys do these achievements you can get thousands of gems for free.

3. Gem mine 

so the gem mine is a pretty new thing that came out in the May 2017 update with the Builder base and it only gives you like two gems per day which sounds like pretty much nothing but the truth is why not get those free gems like the gem line is there for you even if it's only giving you a tiny amount per day what could you possibly lose from just getting the gem line and collecting those gems supercell is essentially giving us free gems right here very small amounts but it's better than nothing so yeah I did build my gym line to like level three or so and I'm just collecting my two gems per day over a whole year you'll only get 700 gems but hey why not it's not that much of a hassle to just click a button to get your free gems.

4. Using Third-Party Apps  

There are many apps you can find on the Google Play Store the Apple App Store where you can earn points by downloading or trying other games and apps and after a certain amount of points you can buy Google Play gift purse or iTunes gift cards through which you can buy gems without wasting any money at all but you need to give a little bit of time to get points for Goole Play or iTunes gift cards examples of these apps are cash for apps, AppNana and App bounty gift codes you just need to download one of these apps install and run it on your phone and earn points to buy some gems in clash of clans. 

5. Completing events

So events are a great way to get gems while having fun at the same time so for example, let's say there's a hog rider event where you have to complete five attacks with like 20 hog riders or something like that you can do that have a ton of fun using all those hog riders and at the end supercell usually rewards you with like 10 to 20 gems sometimes the gem rewards are much higher sometimes it's like 200 gems we're doing 20 attacks with a certain type of troop and since there's like a new event every week or so you can just get a ton of gems by completing all these events it really does stack up over time with all these different troop events and other special events and stuff like that so definitely go ahead and complete those events if you want your shot at a bunch of free gems. 

6. Supercell Giving You Free Gems 

This is extremely rare but it has happened to me before so I want to share this with you guys so if you participate in a supercell sponsored event so I did a while back it was a reddit verse forum clan war and I was in the war on the forum side the forum side actually won that war so supercell was sponsoring the event and they said that the winning side who would get gems to every single player on that team so since I was on the winning side supercell did actually send me free gems so that was absolutely amazing supercell hooking me up with those free gems I'm pretty sure it was like a lot of gems too I don't remember and I'm gonna have to check but yeah supercell did give me free gems for that one essentially they had a support message saying click here to claim your free gems and I just clicked it and I just got all the free gems directly added to my account so that was great but like I said this is very rare and all you gotta do is watch out on the clash of clans forums or the clash of clans reddit watch out for those events that are coming out make sure they're supercell sponsored and if you are on the winning side supercell will probably reward your team with some gems. 

7. False-positive ban  

Another way to get free gems from supercell but this one is giving you compensate for a false-positive ban this has actually happened to one of my friends in the game basically she was banned from the game for like a week and she didn't actually do anything wrong so what she did was contact supercell and supercell admitted yeah we made a mistake we shouldn't have banned you so they immediately reinstated her account but in addition they also gave her I think like a 1000 gems just as like a compensation reward saying like hey we're sorry for accidentally banning you here's some free gems and make up for all the lost time and just to show that we're sorry for the inconvenience that's basically what supercell did and this can actually happen to you but unfortunately it's very rare if you do actually get banned in the game the majority of the time you actually do deserve to get banned maybe you were cheating or something like that but in the very rare case that you know you didn't do anything wrong and you still got banned you can contact supercell and if they do agree that it was a false positive they will unban your account immediately and possibly give you free gems as a reward. 

8. Clan Gifts

So clan gifts have been around for a while but every few months or so supercell will open up the clan gifts and basically in the shop if one of your clanmates buys gems they can send out Clan gifts to the entire clan where you can claim free gems in the clan chat so for me once I bought like a ton of gems and I gave a ton of Clan gifts to my clan mates so if you were one of my clan mates and you open the chap there'd be like 10 or 20 clan gifts waiting for you to claim so that day everyone that was online they got like 200 free gems each which was crazy just from receiving these Clan gifts that I put out so yeah if you are in a pretty good clan or if you're in a clan where you know one of the guys is a huge gamer you can go ahead and watch out for their clan gifts whenever they are available and it's definitely one of the best ways to get free gems.
